Anyone who follows my reviews has probably figured out that I’m a romantic suspense junkie. And I’m a series junkie. Long before I was a book reviewer and blogger, I was an avid reader. I found Cate Beauman’s Bodyguards of LA County series quite some time ago, and I devoured each one as soon as they released. When the first book in The Carter Island Trilogy went live, I was a bit giddy. When it was about three years between books, I was more than a tiny bit despondent. Suffice it to say that I was beyond thrilled to read No More Secrets as I’m pretty sure I straddle the line between devoted fan and quite possibly a rabid fan of Cate Beauman’s words.While you can read No More Secrets as a standalone, there’s so much backstory in the first two books that you’ll definitely get the very best experience by reading these books in order. This one is a contemporary small-town romance, opposites attract romance, and friends-to-lovers romance all rolled into one. There’s no cliffhanger, and it ends in a very heartwarming HEA that wraps up the series in a fabulous way.Cade’s story is heartbreaking. Gwen’s is too. Navigating the waters of a new relationship while still healing from their pasts makes for some pretty choppy waters. They are very opposite in how they view their futures so it’s interesting to watch the push and pull between them. And their chemistry is pretty steamy. There’s not much suspense to their story, but it fits in with the first two books quite well despite that. And while this book focuses on the theme and tone of picking up the pieces when life shatters you for the hero and heroine, it also manages to incorporate the same feel for the island itself and the people whose lives, safety, and security were shattered in books one and two.NICUnurse’s Rating: I give No More Secrets by Cate Beauman 5 out of 5 stars!
